How to make the world a better place...

  Hi! Welcome to my blog. Today I am going to talk about how my career can make this world a better place. Well, I really believe that sociology is a career that make you think, and question yourself about the status quo of society. It makes you see phenomenon like injustice and others social issues in a different way. Whit that skills, I want to be with people, I want to listen to them, knowing their reality, their way of seeing the world. I know this sounds a little hippie; I know it´s not a direct way to fight but is the way that makes me feel I´m doing something for the people. I love my career, yes, but something that sociology has taught me is pessimism. It taught me that it is always something to fight for, because injustice, inequalities, racism, classism, are diseases that remain in our societies.  Once, one of my professors said: “I don't know about you, but I don't find meaning in life”, that hit me so hard because it is an idea that is repeated in many sociologis...

My Future...

Hi! welcome to my blog Once I graduated from sociology, I would like to specialize in the area of ​​ education. My both parents are teachers, so always have been interested in how education impacts the formation of individuals and society. Part of my goals is to study abroad, hopefully Europe, and then return to Latin America. I have even thought about living in Mexico, I love the culture there and it would be very interesting to do sociology in that country. I would also like to do a doctorate, study about gender and social relations. With all this about the pandemic, and that I already have the experience of online classes, it would also be interesting to do a distance course, especially on a topic related to other social sciences such as psychology or anthropology. Sincerely, I don't know exactly what is area I want to pursue, I just know that I want to continue studying as much as I can.

Post 5 - Someone I admire

Someone I admire  Isabel Allende is a Chilean writer, internationally recognized for her work as a novelist. In 1967 she worked for the magazine Paula and in 2010 she won the National Prize for Literature here in Chile. One of his great works is the novel "La casa de los espíritus", born from a letter to his grandfather. This novel is very special to me. I remember the first time I read the book, savoring the phrases and going crazy with the plot. This novel has become a kind of emotional containment for me, I always return to it in difficult moments, especially because of the strong female characters that characterize the history. Isabel has a style that hypnotizes me, her magical realism gives meaning to this crazy life we living. I recently adopted a kitten and the first name I thought of was the name of one of the main characters in the novel, "Clara"

Blog 4 - A photograph and its story

    Hi friends! This photo was taken in February 2020. On the back of the photo, you can see the Balmaceda and Serrano glaciers. There is also a lady in the back that I really don't know who she is. I like the photo because it reminds me of one of the last days of the trip that my mother, my brother, and I made to the south. That day we had to get up early in the morning to board a catamaran that would take us to the glacier. It was a beautiful landscape and, as you can see, a very cold environment, but it was worth it. I remember that we went out to the edge of the catamaran to see the splendor of the glacier, and that was when my mother said, "never forget this moment, because in a short time this glacier would disappear". And to honor that splendid gift of nature, my brother took a photo of me with the scenery.

BLOG 3- My Favorite Piece of Technology

  Hi Friends! I don´t really have a favorite piece of technology, but the one I like and use the most is my cellphone. I got it last year, I bought it to my ex-mother-in-law, who sold it to me very cheap. I use my cellphone every single day, all the time, because it became the way to be close to my friends and to have some social contact in this pandemic context.                                                                 It is a Huawei mate 20 lite I use it to talk to my friends, to publish thing in Instagram and for academic reasons too. The app of U-Cursos reminds me when I have classes, the tasks of the week and notifies my grades. I like that of my cellphone, it´s all in one! Without it I would feel very anxious knowing that I can´t communicate with my friends and the exterior world. I hope never to happen!

BLOG 2: Why did i choose my career?

Since I was little, I always loved to study, I even remember that I used to play that I took classes at the university. And although I liked other things like dancing, my passion for reading and writing was much greater. And that´s how in high school I decided to study sociology, influence by the fact that my parents are teacher of humanities, so I grow up learning about history and social issues. I also considered studying anthropology, but when I had an elective class of social sciences and studied some of the authors, I fell in love whit sociology! Now that I am in second year of the career, I can say that I took the right decision. I feel so passionate about my class topics, especially the theorists! In the future I would like to specialize in sociology of education, and research about that topic in different countries.

BLOG 1- Personal Information

 Hi! I´m Valentina Echeverría. I am a member of a family of 4: my mom, my dad and my brother. I´m the younger sister. I currently live in Santiago de Chile, where i was born.  I am studying sociology at the university of Chile, and i´m in second year now! I really love my carreer, and thats why i want to specialize when i graduate.  Currently im living with my mom, but i see my dad every weekend. I also work my brother, he and her gilrfriend has a ceramic shop, and i do one of the pieces taht they sell. They do lovely thing, all handmande! I really love to dance, but now, with the university responsabilities is imposible to my to practice dance. In any case, i want to start doing something like yoga o that kind o activities. And thats me! o a little of information of me hahaha. And a freak fact about me is that i hate cheese, BUT i only eat it when is melted and in small amounts.   This is a picture of my dog on his 10 birthday! he´s no longer with us, but we...
